The third volume of 48×15 Magazine is almost finished. That’ll soon be one more thing to add to your growing stack of bathroom reading material. This issue, dubbed ‘ The Party Issue’ is jam packed with essential information for anyone who likes to party on a bike. Everything from ways to transport beer, to full Taobao bag reviews, to a full guide on partying for next to nothing everyday of the week and of course an entire feature dedicated to beer in China. This is going to be one hell of an issue, I’m pumped! Expect it to drop in print and online by the end of the month.

Lately all the buzz has been about everything bike related that surrounds the Shanghai Alleycat weekend . . But let me tell you, there is SO much more happening this weekend that anyone can get involved with – bike friendly or not!

Here’s the quick list of 10 non-bike reasons to come check out the Shanghai Alleycat this weekend:

#1 There’s a party Friday night at Shanghai Tattoo.

If you haven’t checked out their new studio yet, you really should. It’s at the corner of Maoming Lu and Yan’an Lu – and it’s fucking awesome. They’ve got a great rooftop and terrace, plus the indoor space is huge! Their hosting the official launch party for the Alleycat weekend, and word on the street has it that DJ Sacco will be spinning the beats all night long. Starts at roughly 9pm!

#2 200 FREE beers on Friday night from Cheers In

That’s right, at the party on Friday night there will be 200 free beers donated by Cheers In and Factory Five. We’re not talking Suntory or Tsingtao, these are imported Belgian Cuvee des Trolls – delicious blonde beer! After the 200 run out, Sinkiang will be sold for 10RMB, Beerlao for 15RMB and Cuvee des Trolls for 20RMB. Cheap beer, good fun!

#3 Amazing deals from Boxing Cat Brewery

The events on Saturday will be happening in and around Sinan Mansions, and the Sinan Mansions Boxing Cat Brewery location. They’ll have cheap (but delicious) food, cheap beer (super discounted) and specials will be running all afternoon and all night long. If you’ve been to one of their locations before then you know that this is something you won’t want to pass up!

#4 DJ B.O. will be spinning tunes Saturday night

Shanghai’s infamous #2 DJ will be spinning tracks from the 40′s, 50′s and 60′s all night long, outdoors in the Sinan Mansions courtyard. Think of it as a FREE outdoor mini-concert!

#5 Sunday BBQ sponsored by Yasmine’s Butchery

Arguably one of the best butcher shops in town, Yasmine’s will be serving up delicious BBQ’d food all Sunday afternoon at Factory Five. That means massive burgers, skewers, chicken wings, salads and even a few steaks! Prices will be cheap (20 – 40RMB), and it’ll likely be some of the best meat you’ve ever tasted in Shanghai.

#6 FREE beer on Sunday

At the Sunday BBQ, The Brew will be bringing down their brew-trike – which is basically a motorcycle with a side car filled with kegs of beer . . Something like 300+ pints of beer to be exact. They’ll be dishing this out for free all afternoon, so turn up and have a drink with us!

#7 Mosh on Sunday night with King Ly Chee

Honk Kong hardcore legends are in town for one night only as part of their China tour, and you can expect some seriously good stage dives and mosh pits. The show starts at 9pm, tickets are 80RMB, and everything will be happening at Yuyintang. Shanghai Alleycat will be promoting the event the entire weekend, so you can bet your ass it’ll be sold out. Plus, Shanghai’s newest hardcore band, Spill Your Guts, debuts for the first time. Mosh mosh!

#8 Meet cool people!

As if this wasn’t obvious enough, coming to hang out for a weekend full of awesome events gives you the chance to make new friends and meet some really cool people. If you’re lucky enough, maybe you’ll even get a chance to talk to USA superstar Austin Horse who is flying in from NYC for the race!

#9 Get outdoors!

Notice a trend here? Almost everything is happening outdoors. Spring is upon us and the weather is beautiful – so get outside, enjoy the (fresh) air and come and say hello!

#10 Be part of a growing trend

Shanghai Alleycat has done their best to combine all rising Shanghai sub cultures into one weekend : fixed gear, tattoos, local music, craft beers and creative minds. If reasons #1 through #9 weren’t enough for you then this might be. See you this weekend? I hope so.
