The Taiwan Fixed Gear girls are at it again, taking new photos and continuing to ride through the city and document it all.  Here are a few of our favorite shots that we found online :

Chud City has released a new cycling sweater, and it looks great !! Even for a first edition of the model it looks very promising. Check out all the details HERE.

There is an unspoken marriage that exists between tattoos and cycling culture . . We’re working on a piece that will be published next week that tries to explain it all, but for now check out these awesome drawings done by artist Matt Taylor.  You can view his site HERE.

Paper Labels is a new collaboration company that is trying to push new ideas of cycling and messenger design.  They’ve released shots of their first bag, which looks great !! Check it out below :

The much anticipated Kilroy frame from Gorilla has finally hit Asia : in Taiwan to be exact.  There were 25 limited edition models sent out worldwide, and the lucky guys down in Taiwan managed to get their hands on a few.  They look beautiful, just check out the pictures below !

Add it to the list : another company has released pedal straps . . Yep, Burro Bags has jumped on the bandwagon and made a version of their own.  Chances that soon one day everyone will be using straps instead of toe clips ??

14 Bike Co recently launched their clothing brand 4TN Clothing : very casual, retains the functionality of sportswear, but the texture and shape have been produced to last. More details can be found HERE.

Four fixed gear riders from Beijing have been sponsored by Adidas to go cycle from Osaka to Tokyo next month. Jealous? I know we are . . They’ll be dressed in the new Adidas OT Tech series, and the entire trip should last about 7 days : averaging about 6 hours of riding a day.  The total trip will be about 500 KM – which doesn’t seem like a lot in retrospect to the trip we at  People’s Bike have been planning to ride – Shanghai to Hong Kong, early March 2010.  Watch out for it !

The main idea behind the Beijing riders going to Japan is to try and explore their culture through the lenses of a Chinese citizen, while obviously promoting Adidas.  You can check out the link HERE.

As if the fixed gear scene hadn’t been penetrated by the fashion industry enough already, Uniqlo has jumped on board and is starting to promote their ‘ Fixed Gear Girls’.  Don’t believe us ? Check out these photos :

Fixie Friday [02/05/2010]

Fixie Friday is a weekly People’s Bike column posted at the end of every week.  Fixie Friday serves as a recap for all of the best fixed gear news from around the world.  Photos, videos, interviews, events : find it all in one big post !

NEWSforFEB 1 – 5, 2010

San Francisco Fixed Gear organization Mash SF is scheduled to cooperate again with the Italian company Cinelli, for the launch of a new bike in 2010. Cinelli has always been on top of the trends and the market, with many groups of artists and street brands custom bodywork, young professionals with style depot, and has always been well received in the fixed gear community.

A new era of bicycle transport has arrived.  These are the hard working people that have brought us all sorts of convenience.  Full story HERE.

Sexy Bicycles has released a new toolkit that will be available soon.  If anyone has any interest in getting a few of these shipped to China, please let us know !

Fixed Gear riders in Guanxi are starting to pop up everywhere.  They’ve also started a great blog which you can check out HERE.  There are promises of their own clothing line and their own bikes coming soon !

It’s no secret that London, England has some pretty crazy weather.  That’s why the guys at London FG have developed a new line of cycling gear : The launch of the all-weather cycling clothing.  The models look great so far; pocket zippers are used in sealed waterproofing treatment, the internal well has a ventilated zipper, and the design looks great ! Check out the site HERE, and the flickr stream HERE.

Amsterdam has a new Fixed Gear Shop : PRISTINE.   Looks super nice !

Who gave the Predator a fixed gear? Between Nick’s dreads flying all over and Dave’s flash setup, this photo took me a little bit to figure out what was going on. Night shots seem to be Dave’s fortë. After the bit of controversy over his last photo, Dave’s moved onto more subtle compositions. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more from him and the Fast Pace Zine crew. via Prolly is not Probably.

Yes, this has been everywhere on the internet. He or she’s nervously covering their ears and bracing themselves for a wicked crash. What does one do in a situation like this? Get pitted… Thanks to Jussi for resurrecting this beautiful shot. Now, I think we can all agree, THIS is a wall ride on a track bike. Right?

ZLOG just posted up his 3 shirt designs for Winter 2010. Keep an eye out for them in the next few weeks. Check out all the details here.

Per from D.A.M.P. bicycles in Stockholm posted this photo of his new prototype freestyle frame. Called the Butterbean, the bike clears 48c tires and has a curved seattube so you can slam the wheel, making it easier to wheelie. There are still some issues to work out with the bike, but for now, Mårten and Jakob will be testing them out. Looks great so far !

700cmx has posted up an interview with Tyler Johnson. Congrats to Tyler – Be sure to check out the interview, it’s really informative and Zach’s photos look great. Keep it up !

The 2010 North American Cycle Courier Championships will be held in Atlanta this year. The website for the event has launched. A lot of the information is pending, but check back for site updates. Be sure to head over later on to find out how you can ‘ride dirty for the 2010 NACCCs’. Mark your calenders for October 8th – 11th. It’ll be a blast. Dirty South Messengers.

You’ve seen the finished product before. Here’s a process shot from Courage’s Flickr. There’s an interesting tidbit noted on the photograph; the silver is sweated out of the stainless steel inlay during the process. As the builder notes:

I pre-heat the part with the vice grip held in the vice, then hold it in my left hand when the silver starts to flow so I can make sure its evenly distributed. Sweating frees your hand from having to apply the filler rod.

This minimizes clean-up later and reduces the amount of post-process polishing. These are really beautiful photographs showcasing Courage’s frame-building process. Be sure to check the rest of them out here.

MGDR, an indie clothing company based in Geneva, Switzerland, is having a photo contest: take a photo of your fixed gear bicycle, send it in, and the best photo gets converted/designed for a tee-print!

Keith from Bmore Fixed has a few photos up on the blog from a day at their local park. Looks like a great spot to ride. Flat rails, quarters, banks. Not bad. Check out the rest of the photos here.

Independent Fabrications, creators of everything that is right with American frame-builders, have posted some sneak peeks of an unnamed collaboration to their blog. The only details given, other than the photos, are the file names to the cropped photographs; Duck Hunter, Mellow Fellow and Fixie. There’s also a 1/15 mark on each NDS chainstay, alluding to only 45 completes being made; 15 in each style.

Unlike the Sugino cranks, these are machined in the USA, California to be exact, from 7075-T6 aluminum. Their pricepoint is reasonable when compared to their inherently weaker (because of the forging process) counterparts. There are some shops in  NYC, along with Tokyo Fixed Gear in London, who have been using these for single-speed and fixed builds with no issues.

Volume Bikes ( @vbc_demolition ) just received their first shipment of v5 Cutters at their warehouse.

The Monster Track 2010 official website has launched. This is where all the information for this year’s race will be so check back often for updates and witty humor.
