We actually did it! Our re-launch party went off without a hook and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Over the course of the night there were about 150 people that rolled through our new space, most of them on bikes. The entire Shanghai fixie community came with their drinking hats on, and we set it off!
First off, a big thanks to our main sponsor Vedett Beer – your bottles ensured we all had something in our hand. Another thank you to Enoport United Wines, and Adam McLean for mixing up the tastiest baijiu cocktails – we loved them . . for the most part. And finally a big thank you to everyone who came out to support us! We look forward to seeing more photos! For now, check these out:
On top of the photos we took ourselves there were probably a good 6 – 10 nice cameras floating around the party, so we’d love to see some shots from other people. Our friend Mike Udaondo from www.evasee.com took some great shots which you can see up on flickr. Here’s a small selection from his photos, big thanks Mike!
With our launch party coming up on Tuesday night we decided to get our asses in gear and bring in a few couches, chairs, and a new TV. Now you’ve get every reason to come hang out here after work and catch a cycling film and a cold beer. Check it out:
As for party updates, we just got confirmation from Enoport United Wines that they’ll also be fueling our party. They’re the guys that supplied the Portugese Pavillion during the Expo. Double win! You can check out their site HERE.
And finally, DJ B.O from Trash A Go Go will be spinning tunes all night – so bring your punk rock game face. See you all tomorrow night!
After a few weeks of hard work we’re finally ready to have everyone over for a re-launch party. That means full-on hangouts, celebratory drinks and all things bikes. We’ve got a bunch of new custom re-builds in the workshop and we’re ready for a new batch of orders.
Roll on through on Tuesday, September 20th, between 7-9pm and have a drink with us. Better yet, we’ll have a few options for you to choose from: FREE Vedett Beer, FREE soft drinks, or if you’re feeling really adventurous … FREE baijiu cocktails! While supplies last of course. Now you have no reason not to swing by. Here’s the short and sweet:
When? Tuesday, September 20th
Where? Factory Five, 876 Jiangsu Lu, Building 2, Floor 1
Get it? All those crazy mixes will make you ride like a crazy Japanese anime cartoon. Awesome! We can’t wait to crack open the beers, see you all Tuesday!
We got a few boxes of the latest Brooks leather bar tape into the office today. With the leftover scraps we had after wrapping a few sets of bars, why not throw it onto some tools and count it as an upgrade! Our mallet now rocks Brooks leather tape too. Win.
Slowly things are taking form around here. We’re busy handling another batch of Lee Jeans bicycles, as well as rolling out some more custom re-builds for those of you that have contacted us by e-mail.
If you’re interested in swinging by to have a quick chat, talk about building a bike, or just want to share a few beers, then get in touch with us. And of course, let us know what you think of the new space!
After our work with Lee Jeans we met up with MILK Magazine to talk bikes, riding culture, and the beautiful re-builds. Pick up a copy of MILK Magazine and dive in!
A couple months back, Factory Five was approached to help Lee with their latest campaign “the city is mine”.
They’d designed a collection of jeans with the urban rider in mind, and hearing from the grapevine that a bunch of urban riders take on Shanghai’s streets on a daily basis, thought that Factory Five might know a thing or two.
The result was a collaboration around a a series of Factory Five custom builds that embody facets of fixed-gear culture, created around the classic geometry that China has recognized for decades.
The worst part about working on a secret project is keeping it secret. From filming with Birdhead to shoots with Ethan Ruan (阮ç»å¤©) and stacking it on the catwalk at fashion shows – we had to keep zipped.
Until now. We’ll let the campaign do the talking…
The Factory Five collaboration with Lee
We must admit – it’s been a while. As the summer has been kicking in – we’ve been transitioning into a bigger (better, faster, stronger) workshop over on Jiangsu lu. We’ve also been kept busy with a couple projects… more on those later.
We’re gearing up to crack open the champagne and declare HMS Factory Five open again. Shortly we’ll be announcing where and when and how. In true F5 style we’re slightly off the beaten track, with plenty of room to throw a party or two and kick back to talk bikes.
For now: Watch this space. Follow us on twitter if you don’t already (@wearefactory5) or elsewhere and if you’re keen to get one of our new batch of builds – email us now on shoutout at wearefactoryfive dot com to get your foot in the door.
