Not tonight. Now with all this rain. We’re all for a hundred people charging through the city streets but when it comes to those white lines, those leaves, those drenched grannies… we have to think of everybody’s safety too.
We’ll stay indoors tonight, or slip on the Hunters and sploosh around in the puddles. Tonight is not for biking. Not in a city on slicks with enough grime to lubricate a planetoid.
Don’t get us wrong. At the right time we’re all about getting doused and rolling forth. The right time is not on a spluttery tuesday night in Shanghai when the buses, the taxis, the blind scooters and the rogue mountain bikers are out there with their own agendas.
The F550S represents our never-rest attitude. We’ve been working on this one-off frameset for a while and are excited to present a very limited run of something special. The base is the same geometry as our all-round-powerhouse F550. It is light, sturdy, nimble and awesome. We’ve refined it. Instead of an oversize down tube we’ve kept it to 1+1/8th inch throughout. It lend super-clean lines and reduce weight slightly. Weight reducing and game changing too is the addition of a carbon fork up front. The Seatpost diameter is 27.2mm, standard 68mm bottom bracket shell and a 1+1/8th inch headset. Sizing is from the center of the BB axle to the top of the seat post – which extends slightly above the top-tube. For the frame geometry drawings [click here] Instead of the industrial TIG weld we’ve applied a smoothweld at all the joints. It’s the same application as on our F5100, turning each corner of the frame into a beautiful transition between the tubes. Then, dress it in our 2014 team graphics and race logos. The F550-S. A pedigree. Included in the frameset is an F5 Carbon fork. It has a 35mm rake, aluminium 1+1/8th inch steerer and weighs barely a few hundred grams. We also offer a complete performance F550S build. Here’s the specification * 20/24h H+Son Archetype Rims * Low flange Gran Compe Hubs with bladed spokes * F5 Lattice Chainring * Fyxation session tyres * Thomson Elite Seatpost & collar * Thomson X2 Ahead Stem * Deda RHM-02 Road bars * Izumi Chain * Fyxation Pilot Saddle Â¥3,500 Frame and Fork Â¥9,200 Complete Build (just add pedals and bartape)
We know Shanghai like the back of our hand. Join us tonight for a spin through our town.
We’ll show you the way we roll; in a great big pack, consuming the lanes like a rolling phalanx. There’ll be fixies, roadies, bmxers, hybrids, sunday shoppers and everything in between.
If you’ve got a bike and an adventuring spirit. Join us at 876 Jiangsu Lu for a 9pm departure. We’ll ride for an hour or so, stop for a drink and then ride some more… you’ll be home around 11h00-30, or drinking with us in a bar somewhere!
We have two requirements. Be safe and wear a helmet.
Also wear a mask if the PM count is high. These days the city is in a haze bubble.
So, see you before 21h00. If you need to do something to your bike, we close the workshop at 20h30.
This weekend the six warriors in the Ride for Hope team are completing their epic Shenzhen to Shanghai charity ride. The final leg of the 1,200 km, 22 city journey will bring them 120km from Suzhou to Shanghai and we’ll be there alongside to bring them home. To take part in the celebrations the options for saturday are: 1) 13h45: meet at the Garmin store Xuhui (391 Guiping Lu, Xuhui 桂平路391å·). It’s the first destination in Shanghai for the riders. Then they’ll be heading to the Jing’an and Pudong Shangri’La for photos and stuff and we’ll cruise 15-20km straight over to the Kerry Pudong for the official welcome party. 2) 16h00: head straight to Kerry Pudong for the big welcome. At the Kerry (on Century Park) there’ll be cheap food and half-price beers courtesy of the Brew for all riders and people who donate. It’s all for charity so we’ll be asking for Â¥200 donations which go straight to huge causes. Please let us know if you’re in – by confirming with us here – so that we can work out numbers.
Want to join the most famous weekly bicycle ride in China? Saddle up and come over to Factory Five tonight.
We’ll take you through a shanghai you’ve not seen before. From the middle of a 100+ bike pack you’ll take a route that loops this city like it’s our local village.
All you need is a bike, helmet, lights and some pocket change for a drink at the stop. You’ll be needing a drink because although the pace is leisurely, sometimes we hit a straight and some people gun it. You don’t have to gun it… but you probably will.
Regardless of how or what you ride, you must do it safely. We are a big group and to avoid mishap think safety first or face a telling-off from us – or worse. And for pity’s sake, wear a helmet.
See you at 876 Jiangsu Lu for a 21h00 start. The workshop closes at 20h30.
Sometimes we put together a bike for a customer and hope they take their sweet time to collect so we can keep it in the workshop longer. Max’s F5Pista Custom is one of those builds. It has received more attention than almost any bike that has come through F5. Which is not a surprise when you see the photos. A classic sporting green and chrome finish, NOS Campagnolo details and those bars, oh man, they’re so slick. Classic, tasteful, timeless. We love it. If you’re looking to build something special of your own then get in touch or get started using our complete build configurator – starting at Â¥5,590.
