Oh man did you see the weather? It’s glorious out and we’re pumped for tonight’s ride. These spring days are the zenith of rolling Shanghai. Every week we take a different route through the city and tonight’s is going to be super-sweet. We’re going to head North East, up through Jing’an and Hongkou, then along one of our favorite roads, the Siping highway, to Wujiaochang. It’s silky smooth up there. Join us at 876 Jiangsu for a 9pm departure. Need some work doing on you bike then come early, we close the workshop at 8:30pm. If you didn’t already, check out our rules of the ride – and let the good times roll.
We still have two F550 Signature builds left that were on special offer during the Flea Market. It’s the May holidays coming up and we’re feeling generous… so the 25% discounts will remain for one week, until next Monday.
They are both meticulously built up with the same components that we use on most of our builds… only those parts which get the F5 mark of approval. The result is an awesome bike at a frankly awesome price. They’re configured, primed and ready to roll.
One is a Raw F550 53cm and the other our most popular finish – Matte Black F550 59cm. If you’re interested, head over to the workshop asap. Our ex-display and special offer builds don’t stay around for long. Â¥4,800 with 25% discount is Â¥3,600.
We’re super pumped to be sponsoring the 2014 Moutarde Crit. It’s a criterium in Dijon France, now in it’s second year. They’re expecting up to 150 participants in what will be a fast race with some of the world’s strongest riders. Last year’s race was won by Alessandro Bruzza from Italy who will be fighting to retain his title.
It’s on June 1st – so if you’re in the area – you cannot not to go there!
Last week we rode north, up along Jiangsu Lu, past the Metro and over the creek. Well, half of the pack didn’t actually go over the creek and we split into two huge groups riding their own route.
For some, it was an exploration of Shanghai’s North, tracking under the elevated highways right out to the middle ring road. For others it was a dash west, to orbit around Hongqiao Airport.
Both routes were a celebration of Shanghai’s smooth flatness. Huge roads built for huge transport, muted down after the daytime and primed for a few hundred wheels to ride the night.
Converging back near Factory Five, we headed to the nearby C-Store for a drink and work out which route was better. Here’s the winner.

To celebrate the arrival of spring, we’re running some amazing flea-market-only special offers on Sunday. From 2pm until close: 20% off all Mission Workshop bags, 20% off Paul Components cranks, hubs and levers, 25% off selected F550 signature builds and a totally bonkers 60% end of season sale on HJUL clothing. For everything else in stock, there’s 15% off everything. So if you don’t find something at the flea market, there are still great savings to be found. Here’s the obligatory small print: The offer applies to in stock items only. Does not include custom bike or frame orders. Only one discount can be applied per item and, yeah, F5 discretion precedes everything – whatever that means.
NOTE: DATE CHANGE TO SUNDAY! Join us on Sunday, April 27th from 14h00-18h00 for our spring bike flea market. Bring those rides, components and accessories which are taking space in your garage (i.e. spare bedroom) and swap them with everybody else for things that you actually need.
Need something to complete your new ride for this season? Searching for some NOS Campagnolo components? Handlebars giving you a bad back? Answers will be waiting for you at F5 this sunday.
We’ll be setting up tables outside and it’s free to get a space so come early to reserve yours. One man’s badly sprung OK saddle is another man’s rolling throne cushion so bring everything you’ve got.
We’ll be going through our spare bedroom too and have already found some humongous Tange drops, Surly chainrings, Campag Record cranks, Thomson stems and enough bullhorns for any occasion.
Music, drinks and biking chat will be available as-standard and as with all things F5, let the good times roll. We also have some flea-market-only special offers including 15% of everything and up to 60% off selected brands… for one day only – click here for more.

If you’re in town on june 1st then head over to Bream Street and take part in something awesome organized by our friends over at The Fixed Life. They’ve a bunch of prizes up for grab, including one of our coveted lattice chainrings. Details are in the flyer, basically it’s £10 in advance or £15 on the day. Checkpoints will be relatively easy to find and released the way we like it – a few days before so that people from out of town get fair odds.
